About Janštejn Glass Group

Janštejn Glass Group s.r.o. (JGG) was founded in early 2020, and thus a new course was set in the evolution of the companies it comprises.

Janštejn Glass Group is located in the middle of the Czech Republic in the country’s Highlands Region in the village of Janštejn, which lies approximately 140 kilometres southeast of Prague. The heart of the group is a historical Bohemian glassworks with more than 200 years of glassmaking tradition. The group was established in order to simplify and streamline the business activities of the glassworks, but it also comprises other companies in the glassmaking industry.

The founding companies are JANŠTEJN GLASSWORKS, BROKIS, BROKISGLASS, BROKIS SOLUTIONS, and SYROVÁTKA. A unique symbiosis is forming across the newly formed group, with a cohesive identity and concept emerging from within.

JANŠTEJN GLASSWORKS

The company specializes in the manufacture of lighting glass and builds on a tradition started more than 200 years ago. The artistry of the master glassmakers at Janštejn Glassworks dates to the year 1809, thus making the factory one of the oldest of its kind in the Czech Republic. Approximately 20% of the glass blown at Janštejn Glassworks is for BROKIS, with the other products going to customers around the world. Characteristic for the glassworks is its unparalleled level of craftsmanship in combination with remarkably large formats of handblown glass. The glassworks has its own grinding, polishing, and matting lines as well as a waterjet.

BROKISGLASS

BROKISGLASS is the product of the eco-friendly practices of Janštejn Glassworks and BROKIS, whose collaboration has given rise to a unique new material made of glass shards. In the manufacture of lighting glass, up to 30% of each handblown piece is discarded. The primary motivation for establishing and developing the company BROKISGLASS was the need to change the conventional perception of glass shards as waste, which previously was merely hauled to a landfill where it burdened the environment and had a negative impact on the character of the surrounding landscape. This innovative material brings a new dimension and aesthetic to glass, and its unique properties make it an excellent choice in architecture, construction, and interior and product design.

BROKIS

The Czech premium lighting brand BROKIS stands for select design, unsurpassed quality, and the extraordinary craftsmanship of master Bohemian glassmakers. Conceived by renowned Czech and international designers, the brand’s lighting collections have garnered international recognition and received numerous awards in prestigious design competitions both at home and abroad. The company combines handblown glass with other refined materials, such as wood and manually pressed metal, in bold lighting compositions that push the boundaries of contemporary design. The BROKIS portfolio features modern functional lighting fixtures, decorative objects, and unique lighting solutions for architects and interior designers. With its own high-capacity glassworks rooted in more than 200 years of history, the company is free to experiment and develop innovative materials, techniques, and technologies as well as design and execute bespoke lighting solutions.
